Decaying peach

A decaying peach taken every 12 hours, over a period of 6 days.

It shows how the mould devour the peach.

The peach appears to wrinkle and shrivel as it dries out, whilst the surface is gradually covered by mould.

Choosing a Comments profile

Dear parents,

A parent has emailed me on what to choose for the profile for Comments and I realised that it was not very user-friendly for parents.

I've changed the setting for Comments section. To add a comment, click on Comments, select the profile 'Name/URL', key in your name and leave the 'URL' portion empty, after which you may key in your comment and preview or publish it.

Readers' Theatre's coming on!

The Blue Pufferfish Group is going to carry out our first Readers' Theatre production next Thursday.

I've briefed the group on how they can go about presenting their story 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. The script is provided. They are not required to memorise the script. However, being familiar with the lines would certainly help in giving a boost to the presentation.

The group will have access to the script from this Friday to next Wednesday for the purpose of familiarisation. I'll also allow the children some time to rehearse the production.

The children are encouraged to bring something that's related to their characters on the Readers' Theatre day to add life to their presentation. They can make a mask, put on costumes or even don a token item that's related to their characters for the purpose of pure enjoyment.

I have a feeling we are going to enjoy this. :) Do look forward to it.

Xiang Qi showing and telling about her favourite stuff toy.

Jeeva flipping to show the pages of his favourite read.

Today's Show & Tell was a smashing success. Xiang Qi and Jeeva came well-prepared. They were all ready to show their friends what their favourite things were. It was clear that they had prepared what they wanted to say in advance. I was totally impressed with their effort and seriousness towards the session. Well done!

The audience were praise-worthy too. They gave due respect to their friends who presented by listening attentively.
Keep up the good work, children!

The next presenters on the agenda are Athirah and Asyraf. Let's keep our ears peeled on Friday. :)

Sony Creative Toy Awards

To update the status of the Awards, the deadline for the Awards is 20th April 2009.

Show & Tell

Tomorrow will be our first session of Show & Tell!

The theme for our Show & Tell is 'My favourite thing'. We're having two children to kickstart it this week.

I've demonstrated to the children on how it can be done:
  • Introduce the item (what it is)
  • State the reason on why it is your favourite thing
  • State the giver or person who bought it for you
  • Other things worth mentioning: when it was bought or given to you, why the giver gave it to you and special features of the thing

Each presentation should last for about 3 to 5 minutes. Please allow your child to bring an item of his or her choice to school. On the side of caution, I've asked the children not to bring expensive items such as PSP or handphones to school. If it so happens that their favourite thing is something expensive, they may want to take a picture of it for the Show & Tell session instead.

Sony Creative Science Award 2009

Some children have been given an entry form for Sony Creative Award. It's basically a toy-making competition extended to our school by the Science Centre.

The competition is divided into 2 categories: ScizKid Award and WhizKid Award. A new award, Best Multi-Player Award, which requires at least 2 players for the toy, is also introduced this year.

Children can work individually or in pairs to make the toy.

More details can be found here.

Our school is also giving out a special prize this year to the class which has the most toys submitted (*hint hint*).

I thought the March holidays would be a nice time for the children to make the toys. :)

Welcome

Dear parents,

Welcome to 3 Conscientious class blog!

I'm really excited to come back to school after my maternity leave and take 3 Conscientious for my form class. I'm looking forward to do quite a few things with the class. They include having Show & Tell sessions and Readers' Theatre.

This blog is set up to help parents better understand what goes on in the classroom, which I believe would, in turn, help parents to support their children's learning.

Do sign off in the Comments section so that I can be sure that all parents are aware of this avenue of communication.

Thank you for your kind attention.
